New Services: Late Appointments and Saturday Hygiene Clinic

We understand that busy schedules can sometimes make it difficult to find time for dental appointments. To make it easier for our patients to maintain their oral health, we now offer late appointments twice a week(until 6pm on Mondays and 7pm on Tuesdays), as well as a monthly Saturday hygiene clinic. These additional hours give you more flexibility to schedule your visits without disrupting your work or other commitments. It’s just one more way we ensure that dental hygiene remains accessible for everyone. Our Saturday clinic has proved most popular, especially with children who are unable to take time out of school during the week.

Dental hygiene is an essential part of maintaining oral health. Gone are the days of coming in for a “scale & polish” as a hygiene clean is so much more than this! It involves regular cleaning of the teeth and gums by a trained professional (usually a dental hygienist near me) who helps prevent the buildup of plaque, tartar, and other harmful substances that can lead to dental issues such as cavities, gum disease, and tooth loss. The primary goal of dental hygiene is to keep the mouth clean, promote healthy gums, and ensure the prevention of oral diseases. A well-executed hygiene treatment helps to prevent gum diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis, as well as tooth decay. It also plays a key role in identifying any potential oral health issues early on, such as early signs of oral cancer or the presence of cavities.

What Dental Hygiene Entails

A typical dental hygiene appointment goes beyond just cleaning your teeth. During a hygiene session, the hygienist will carefully remove plaque and tartar that accumulate on your teeth, especially in hard-to-reach places. They will also offer services such as:

  • Airflow: A professional cleaning technique that uses a high-pressure stream of air, water, and fine powder to remove plaque, stains, and bacteria from teeth and gums gently and effectively.
  • Fluoride Treatments: Application of fluoride to strengthen tooth enamel and protect against decay.
  • Gum Health Assessment: Regular checks for signs of gum disease, such as bleeding, swelling, or pockets between the teeth and gums.
  • Education on Oral Hygiene Practices: Guidance on proper brushing, flossing techniques, and diet tips that can help maintain oral health at home, as well as recommendations on the best tools to use for this which can be purchased directly from us.

The Importance of Regular Hygiene Appointments

Regular dental hygiene visits are a vital part of maintaining overall health. While brushing and flossing at home are crucial for daily oral care, professional cleanings go a step further in preventing oral health problems. The British Dental Association (BDA) recommends that people with no oral health issues should see a dental hygienist twice a year. Those with dental or periodontal concerns should see a hygienist more frequently. Why not book in for your dental hygiene visit with us in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire.

They know our patients by name and are invested in their long-term oral health. This rapport creates a welcoming environment where patients feel like they are part of our dental family.
  • Commitment to Patient Education: Each dental hygienist in Buckinghamshire takes the time to teach patients how to improve their at-home oral hygiene routines, offering tips on brushing, flossing, and other healthy habits that can maintain their smile between visits.

The Benefits of Regular Dental Hygiene Appointments:

  • Preventing Gum Disease: Gingivitis, the earliest stage of gum disease, can be reversed with regular cleaning, but if left untreated, it can progress to periodontitis, a more serious condition that can lead to tooth loss.
  • Reducing the Risk of Tooth Decay: Plaque and tartar buildup can trap harmful bacteria against your teeth, leading to cavities. Professional cleanings help reduce these risks by removing buildup before it leads to more severe problems.
  • Maintaining Fresh Breath: Regular cleanings help reduce bad breath caused by bacteria in the mouth, ensuring a more pleasant and fresh-smelling breath.
  • Early Detection of Oral Health Issues: A dental hygienist will examine your mouth during each visit and look for potential issues like cavities, oral cancer, or gum disease. Detecting these issues early can prevent more severe health problems down the line.
  • Overall Health Connection: Oral health is directly linked to overall health. Research has shown that poor oral hygiene is connected to serious conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and respiratory issues. Regular cleanings help reduce the risk of these systemic diseases.

Regular dental hygiene appointments are a cornerstone of maintaining oral and overall health. With the help of our incredible hygienists, you can rest assured that your dental care is in expert hands. Whether you’re coming in for a routine cleaning or addressing specific concerns, we are here to provide the highest level of care with warmth, expertise, and a personalised touch.
